You Can't Have That
The scene: Drive up window at Carl's Junior, 5:40am.
Grant and I are carpooling today to stretch our gas and because he likes me. So, I decide to make him......I mean order him a hearty breakfast sandwich (Grant says nobody can order food through a window like me......he adores me!)
Anyhoo......I order two Sausage and Egg sandwiches and two drinks at Carl's Jr. The pleasant man at the other end of the speaker politely says, "you can't have that". I am assuming he is worried about our cholesterol when I replied, "it's okay we just had our physicals and aside from the concern of the sodium count I am sure we will be okay".
Then the pleasant man said a little more firmly, "you can't have that, because we don't serve breakfast until 6am, wouldn't you rather have a Spicy Chicken sandwich instead?"
So I have to ask, "Who eats a spicy anything at 5:40am?"
Grant and I drove to another food establishment with a drive thru window.

Summer Stream Scarf
Catching up on some of my projects. I started the Summer Stream Scarf on January 7 and was finished knitting on the 21st. It turned out to be very fast and relaxing because as soon as you are done with the lace bit, it is fairly plain knit with a few little yarnovers and k2togs thrown in to keep you from getting too relaxed or too bored. This is the first project where I knitted with Fiddlesticks Enticing yarn and it was a soft and buttery yarn that just felt good running through my hands.

Stitches West 2013
I am only three days away from traveling to Stitches West. I will be using the mobile blogging feature on my phone to tell the story of this great event. This will be my first time attending so I have no idea what this experience will be like so it will be fun to discover this event together.

My Entrelac Scarf
I loved making this scarf, it took 4 balls of Boku yarn, 9 days on the needles and after about 10 rows, you have the pattern memorized so it is a great "take and make" project. I loved the way the yarn just flowed into the color blocks as if I did this intentionally. I will make this pattern again and use a different long color repeat yarn to see if the results are similar. This is a good project to play with!

Superbowl Kickoff Knitting
Why not try an Entrelac scarf I thought? Everyone is going to be watching the game and I will have a scarf started by the end of the night.
I was so happy that I brought the project to my mom's house while everyone settled in to watch the game, because 15 minutes into the game everyone started watching my knitting as it was more exciting than the first half of the game. However, after half-time it appeared that there was actually a football game and all of our attention was on the game.
Turned out to be a great evening and I still have a scarf started.

Epic Knitting
I have just got around to taking pictures of my epic shawl project. The Circle of Life was a great project for a Summer, it starts out small and grows into this huge project, but it is easy to memorize and after getting the project onto circular needles it just seems to flow nicely. Of course the end result is a project that will turn heads and looks far more complicated than it was.
The process of the project was enjoyable and the product is jaw dropping. A rare win-win project that is worth the investment of time.

Is This My 15 Minutes Fame?
As you know, my husband, Grant Madden is an accomplished writer. Last June or July, Grant wrote a story which was picked up by a local publication. That is when the fun began.....
I enjoy cheering and encouraging Grant's writing content knowing that behind every great man is a woman riding him like a country mule to achieve his goals and get his "stuff" published.......but I digress....
About a week ago, Grant came home with a snicker and grin said "There is going to be a photo shoot for the cover of the publication that is running my story". I replied with the typical, "that's great, when is it?" Trying to concentrate on my Craftsy class, Adventures In Double Knitting, when I thought I heard Grant say "they want you in the photos".
"Huh?"
"What?"
Grant smiles and walks away, saying just barely loud enough, "oh and they want your yarn and one of your unfinished projects as well"...........
Today I found out what that was all about, during the photo shoot that took place this afternoon. All I can tell you at this point is, my legs are burning and I got three rows done on my Loopy Scarf.

Still Knitting and Stuff
Well after a long hiatus from blogging I have decided to step up and get back to blogging. I have had a lot going on and trying to find balance with the current economy and trying to keep my head above water, as I'm sure most of you can relate.
While I have been away from blogging, my knitting and crocheting has still kept me busy as well. One of my favorite scarf patterns is the Aethercopter. which I knitted in Amy Butler's Belle Organic DK.
This scarf was a quick project and looks so much more difficult than it is. The pattern is written beautifully which always makes a project more successful.

Tube Scarf
I just finished a scarf today......which I started one year ago today.
The Classic Elite's Tube Scarf is a very pretty, light weight, lacy knit that is absolutely WONDERFUL to wear. It was only after I wrapped this around my neck that I feel in love with it.
I wanted this scarf the moment I saw it in the pattern book. Once I started knitting it however, I had a hard time sticking with it. Knitting two panels to 60" length seems to drag on slowly, but when one of the panels is in straight stockinette stitch you lose all sense of direction, the world stops rotating yet seasons come and go and you feel like you are only growing older while knitting this never ending panel. I imagine that it would be similar to knitting a roll of toilet paper. Only with the Silky Alpaca yarn you find yourself petting it more than you'd ever squeeze a roll of Charmin.
I would rethink the BLACK panel. It was slow and boring to knit, but the yarn just felt so good in the hands that the longer it got the more I wanted to knit on it. The problem came when sewing the panels together. The black color made it nearly impossible to see the edge of the stitch and more than once I wanted to just stab myself in the eyes with the needle. You need extremely good lighting when you sew these panels together......something I had trouble finding at home.......In the bathroom under the heat lamp was my best light, but who wants to sew on a scarf while dripping with sweat?
I really do love this scarf now that I have it and can wear it. Of course, this scarf is also the first knit project I have made where both of my daughters uttered ooohs and ahhhhs while petting and rubbing the scarf on their necks and face exclaming that now they each want one!!
